Richard Ernst Prize

Richard Ernst Prize

The Ernst Prize is intended to award achievements going beyond fundamental research, for groundbreaking applications of new or of previously known techniques in all areas of magnetic resonance. The Prize comes with a purse of 10,000 Euro; it is sponsored by the Bruker BioSpin Corporation, and is awarded annually at the EUROMAR conference.

It is intended for research published within the last three years, although the origins of the ideas and experiments may have been described in previous publications.  In special cases, and at the discretion of the Prize Committee, the award may be for cumulative achievements over a longer period of time.  The Ernst Prize is intended to be awarded to a single individual; however, it may be awarded to up to three scientists if the Prize Committee deems that their contributions to the development of the applications are of equal value. Former prize recipients are Alex Pines (2016), Robert Griffin (2017), Claudio Luchinat (2018), and Daniella Goldfarb and Angela Gronenborn (2019).

The 2020 Ernst Prize committee is made by Profs. Lucia Banci (chair), Robert Griffin, Claudio Luchinat, Daniella Goldfarb and Angela Gronenborn, Hartmut Oschkinat, Oscar Millet, and Janez Plavec.

Call for nominations

We are asking for nominations for the “Richard R. Ernst Prize in Magnetic Resonance” (Ernst Prize), named after magnetic resonance pioneer and Nobel Laureate Prof. Richard R. Ernst, which will be awarded at the EUROMAR 2020 in Bilbao to recognize ‘recent beneficial applications of Magnetic Resonance’.

Nominations must include and fulfill the following conditions:

  • Nominations must include the nominee’s name, affiliation, address, phone number, and e-mail
  • Nominations must include a brief (ca. 200 words) description of the work serving as the basis for the nomination, and a list of relevant publications (~5).
  • Nominees may not have received the Guenther Laukien Prize or the Russell Varian Prize in the preceding five years.
  • Self-nominations are not accepted
  • Nominations for the 2019 Ernst Prize will be considered until February 29, 2020 to Lucia Banci (banci@cermn.unifi.it), the Chair of the Ernst Prize Committee.
Raymond Andrew Prize

Raymond Andrew Prize 2020

In memory of Professor Dr. Raymond Andrew and to honor his pioneering work in the field of magnetic resonance, the AMPERE Group has founded the Raymond Andrew Prize. The prize is awarded to young scientists for an outstanding PhD thesis in magnetic resonance.

Call for nominations

For the Raymond Andrew Prize 2020 the AMPERE Prize Committee is seeking your help in searching for qualified candidates who completed their dissertation during the period of 2018/2019. The prize will be presented during EUROMAR in Bilbao (Spain) July 5th to July 9th 2020.

You are kindly invited to submit nominations by e-mail to: andrewprize@ampere-society.org

Suggestions must be received by 15th February 2020 and should include the following documents:

  • Nomination letter
  • Curriculum vitae
  • List of publications and presentations at conferences
  • PhD thesis in PDF

The thesis should be written in English. In exceptional cases, the thesis may also be submitted in triplicate as a hardcopy to the AMPERE Secretariat.

Submissions that arrive too late will automatically be transferred to the next year.

The prize committee will reconsider excellent contributions for two years in a row.

Ampere Prize to Young Investigators

Ampere Prize for Young Investigators

The AMPERE prize has recently been redefined and is now given to a young principle researcher (a “rising star”) for her/his first achievements in her/his independent career. There is no strict age limit but typically researchers below the age of forty are envisioned.

Call for nominations

The committee now calls for Nominations for the AMPERE Prize 2020 for a young principal investigator in the field of magnetic resonance. The prize will be presented during the EUROMAR in Bilbao (Spain) July 5th to July 9th 2020. The prize carries a value of € 2000.

You are kindly invited to submit nominations by e-mail to the president of the prize committee: ampereprize@ampere-society.org

Suggestions must be received by 15th February 2020 and should include the following documents:

  • Nomination letter
  • Curriculum vitae
  • List of publications and presentations at conferences
Varian Young Investigator Award

Varian Young Investigator Award

To honor the physicist, inventor and entrepreneur, EUROMAR and ICMRBS set up, for several years, the Russell Varian Prize. A group of anonymous donors have revived this award as the Varian Young Investigator Award. The Award will be presented and administered via EUROMAR in the even-numbered years (2020, 2022, etc.) and via ENC in the odd-numbered years.

The recipient will receive a prize of $5,000.

Call for nominations

The Varian Young Investigator Award at EUROMAR is intended to recognize a single investigator, for his/her achievements in any area of magnetic resonance. The award is to be granted to people in the first 12 years after their Ph.D. This is a general guideline and exceptions will be considered. The Varian Young Investigator Award will be presented at the EUROMAR 2020 in Bilbao/Spain (5.-9. July).

You are kindly invited to submit nominations by e-mail to Thomas Prisner (Chair of EUROMAR): Prisner@Chemie.Uni-Frankfurt.de

Suggestions must be received by April 1, 2020 and should include the following documents:

  • Name of nominee, with nominee’s affiliation, phone, and e-mail
  • CV of the nominee
  • Name of nominator, address, phone, and e-mail adress
  • A brief (no more than 200 words) description of the work that forms the basis of the nomination
  • A list of up to five relevant publications.

The deadline for nominations will be April 1 of the award year; self-nominations will not be accepted, but nominations by the selection committee (SC) members are welcomed. No previous winner of a Varian themed award will be considered. Decisions of the SC will be by a majority of those voting, with the Chair having a casting vote in the event of a tie.
