Prof. Xavier Salvatella

A high resolution description of the structural heterogeneity of proteins is a very useful tool to study the properties and the function of these important biomacromolecules and, most importantly, to understand how changes in sequence or environment can lead to disease. The research work carried out at the Laboratory of Molecular Biophysics, led by Xavier Salvatella, aims at developing methods to probe the fluctuations of the structure of proteins by combining experimental data and molecular simulations and at understanding how they relate to the recognition of proteins, to their function and disease. Xavier Salvatella obtained a PhD from the University of Barcelona under the supervision of Prof. Ernest Giralt and was a research fellow at the University of Cambridge, working with Michele Vendruscolo and Christopher Dobson, until his appointment as ICREA Researcher and group leader at IRB Barcelona in 2008.
